FEES

In accordance with article 10 of the French law of 31 December 1971, our fees are dependent on the financial means of the client, the complexity of the matter, the costs incurred by the lawyer in the performance of the retainer and the level of experience of the lawyer in question.

Fees in France are not set down by law but rather are freely negotiable between the parties. Such negotiation allows for the agreement of an hourly rate or a fixed fee for a particular stage of proceedings. In French proceedings, the parties are also permitted to agree on a success fee.

1. Hourly rate
We charge by the hour, depending on the time spent on the case, the number of court appearances, and level of disbursements (travel/postage costs etc.). Estimates of fees can be provided on request.

2. Flat rate
We charge a flat rate when the approximate amount of work involved can be determined in advance (for example in petitions for divorce or summary judgment).

3. Contingency fees
These fees are based on a percentage of an award or settlement that the lawyer recovers. Contingency fees are only allowed as counterpart of fees charged on a flat rate or by the hour.

Legal aid
We undertake legal aid work for those clients who qualify for aid as a result of being unable to afford to hire a lawyer.
